CALIFORNIA 47 FLIPS TO RED; GOP VOTERS NOW OUTNUMBER DEMOCRATS

Heading Into Election Day Republicans Now Outnumber Democrats In This Critical Orange County House Seat; Also Min Raises A Small Fraction of Porter’s 2022 Spend

[Orange County, CA] — In a remarkable political shift, Republicans now outnumber Democrats in voter registration within California's 47th Congressional District, according to the latest data from the Orange County Registrar of Voters. This represents a significant swing in the district, since the narrow re-election of Democrat Katie Porter just two years ago.

At the time of the 2022 general election Democrats outnumber Republicans by 7,678 according to the California Secretary of State’s website. Since that time that margin has been shrinking until ultimately it has now evaporated all together, with Republicans now holding a 64-vote margin. Baugh only lost to Porter by 9113 votes in 2022.

“I am not surprised to see a surge in Republican registration in the district,” said Scott Baugh. “We have been talking to the voters about important issues that matter – securing our border, reducing crime, tackling the fentanyl epidemic, and addressing the crippling levels of inflation in our country.”  Baugh concluded by saying, “The momentum of our campaign this year has been very, very strong. I feel great going into the final weeks until election day.”

At the same time Min’s fundraising for the General Election is a tiny fraction of what Porter spent to hold onto the seat. In the 2022 campaign FEC records show that Porter spent $28,524,571 to hold the seat, while Baugh spent $2,947,212. Baugh was outspent around 9-1! Min has raised around 10% of Porter’s spend, and he and Baugh are basically at parity this year. Not to mention the strong grassroots support for Baugh. This is a huge change from two years ago, and very bad news for Dave Min.

“You cannot do an analysis of how the outcome of this race will be different than two years ago without looking at the key metrics of voter registration movement and fundraising for the candidates versus two years ago,” said Jon Fleischman, Publisher of the FlashReport Website on California Politics, who is assisting Baugh’s efforts. “For the GOP to leap ahead of Democrats in voter registration, and to see Min raising a tiny fraction of what Porter raised, while Baugh has increased his fundraising totals from two years ago – these are all great signs for a positive outcome for Baugh on election day.”
