Wendy and I love the great diversity of people, culture, geography, and life that our country has to offer. In short, Americana and the American Dream in all of its glory is what we love. And, we wanted our son Jackson to see this Americana along with the all the grandeur our country has to offer. So, we set out to visit all 50 states and the nation’s capital. Our trips spanned a 10-year period, and we often return to revisit some of our favorite states. Our family rule was that you could not count a state as visited unless you were in the state for several hours, ate a meal that state was known for, and interviewed a local. Three of our state visits were short (less than 5 hours, most were at least a day, and some were several days. The education we received from our fellow Americans during these travels was profound and can never be learned in a class or a book. As we occasionally took Jackson out of school for these trips, we lived Mark Twain’s statement that one should never let their schooling interfere with their education. We hope that enjoy a taste of America through the Baugh Family Trips.
