Rep. Michelle Steel Endorses Scott Baugh For Congress
Steel represented two-thirds of the district prior to redistricting
Newport Beach, CA – – Today, Congressional candidate Scott Baugh (R-CA47) received the endorsement of U.S. Congresswoman Michelle Steel.
“I am endorsing Scott because he is a solid conservative and the strongest candidate to move this district to the Republican column, and help us keep our majority,” said Rep. Steel. “I urge everyone to unify behind Scott and let’s win this seat!”
The race in the 47th district is widely expected to be one of the most watched in the nation in 2024. In 2022, Baugh held incumbent Rep. Katie Porter to under 51% of the vote, in spite of being outspent by $20 million. The 47th district is now an open seat, with Porter’s decision to run for higher office.
“I am grateful to have the support of Representative Michelle Steel, a longtime Republican leader who represented a large portion of this district so well,” said Baugh.
Since announcing his 2024 campaign Baugh has received early endorsements from the Republican Party of Orange County, the Lincoln Club of Orange County, Club for Growth PAC, as well as overwhelming support from local elected officials, including State Senator Janet Nguyen, Assemblymember Diane Dixon, Orange County Supervisor and Chairman of the Board, Don Wagner and many others.
Scott is an active member of the community, having founded the OC Marathon Foundation, a local charity that has helped teach 40,000 young people about exercise and nutrition. Scott also serves as Chairman of the Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership which works with parents, teachers and law enforcement throughout the county to keep kids out of gangs. He is a trustee at Pacifica Christian High School of Orange County. He is the former Chairman of the Orange County Republican Party and former California Assembly Republican Leader. Scott and his wife Wendy live in Huntington Beach.
The coastal Orange County 47th District includes the cities of Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Costa Mesa and Irvine.
