House Majority Leader Steve Scalise Endorses Scott Baugh for Congress

Newport Beach, CA – – Today, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise endorsed Scott Baugh for Congress in California’s 47th District. “We need Scott Baugh in Congress to help us slash the debt, secure the border and rebuild our economy after the disastrous policies of the Biden Administration,” said Steve Scalise. The endorsement from the Majority Leader means Scott Baugh (R-CA47) has now secured rare pre-primary endorsements form the top four Republican leaders in the House of Representatives; Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer and House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik. “To have the united support of the Republican leaders in Congress is a great honor and a testimony to their commitment to flip the 47th District back into the GOP column,” said Baugh. Scott Baugh is running in the open 47th District, expected to be one of the top targets in the nation for both parties in 2024. In spite of being outspent by over $20 million, Baugh came within 2 points of defeating incumbent Katie Porter in 2022. Yesterday, Baugh announced that he already has over $1 million cash on hand for his campaign in 2023, having raised over $500,000 in the most recent quarter. The coastal district includes the cities of Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Costa Mesa, Irvine and portions of Laguna Hills. A former Chairman of the Orange County Republican Party and former Assembly Republican Leader, Scott Baugh is an active member of the community, having founded the OC Marathon Foundation, a local charity that has helped teach 100,000 young people about exercise and nutrition. Scott has also served as Chairman of the Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership which works with law enforcement, teachers and parents throughout the county to keep kids out of gangs. He is a trustee at Pacifica Christian High School of Orange County. Scott and his wife Wendy live in Huntington Beach. He has lived in the district for over 30 years.
