BREAKING NEWS: House Speaker Kevin McCarthy Endorses Scott Baugh in CA 47
NEWPORT BEACH, CA – Today, Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, endorsed Scott Baugh (R-CA47) for Congress, sending a strong message of party unity behind plans to win this key open district.
“Scott Baugh is a fierce fighter for conservative values and will restore California’s 47th Congressional District to the Republican column,” said Speaker McCarthy. “I proudly endorse his candidacy and look forward to working with him to get our economy back on track, fix our broken immigration system, and eliminate the scourge of fentanyl coming across our borders. Let’s all get behind Scott and expand the Republican majority in the People’s House.”
Scott Baugh is running in the swing 47th District in coastal Orange County, California, an open seat due to incumbent Katie Porter’s decision to run for the U.S. Senate. In spite of being outspent by over $20 million, Baugh came within 2 points of defeating Porter in 2022.
“I am humbled and grateful to have Speaker McCarthy’s pre-primary endorsement,” said Baugh. “It is crucially important for our Party to be united and in a position to win the 47th District in November of 2024, so we can continue to build our majority and protect our jobs, our nation and our shared values.”
Scott Baugh is the former Chairman of the Orange County Republican Party and former California Assembly Republican Leader. He is an active member of the community, having founded the OC Marathon Foundation, a local charity that has helped teach 100,000 young people about exercise and nutrition. Scott has also served as Chairman of the Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership which works with law enforcement throughout the county to keep kids out of gangs. He is a trustee at Pacifica Christian High School of Orange County. Scott and his wife Wendy live in Huntington Beach. He has lived in the district for over 30 years.
