Receives Endorsement from Rep. Michelle Steel
Huntington Beach, CA – – With the endorsement of U.S. Rep. Michelle Steel, Orange County businessman and former Assembly GOP Leader Scott Baugh will run for Congress in the new 47th Congressional District. Scott Baugh’s likely opponent is Congresswoman Katie Porter, vice-chair of the House Progressive Caucus, though Porter may face a primary challenge from Democratic businessman Harley Rouda.
“I am honored to be running to represent this new district, home to my family and business for many years and I am especially grateful to have the support of Representative Michelle Steel, who has represented over two-thirds of this district with distinction for the last three years,” said Baugh, who said the failing economy would be a focus of his efforts in Congress.
“Our economy is heading in the wrong direction and we cannot wait to turn things around. Congresswoman Katie Porter voted for a $2 trillion tax increase and massive expansion of the federal government’s spending and authority over private lives and businesses. Her extreme socialistic policies are a recipe for more inflation, more debt and fewer economic opportunities.” In addition, Baugh cited public safety and border security as priorities, along with protecting Orange County’s coastline and improving educational opportunities.
Scott Baugh is the former Chairman of the Orange County Republican Party and former Assembly Republican Leader. He is an active member of the community, having founded the OC Marathon Foundation, a local charity that has helped teach 40,000 young people about exercise and nutrition. Scott has also served as Chairman of the Gang Reduction Intervention Program that works with law enforcement throughout the county to keep kids out of gangs. He is a trustee at Pacifica Christian High School of Orange County. Scott and his wife Wendy live in Huntington Beach. He has lived in the district for over 30 years.
The new 47th district includes the cities of Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Costa Mesa and Irvine. Rep. Michelle Steel currently represents over sixty-six percent of the district, with Rep. Katie Porter representing less than one-third.
